Social SEO Marketing

Social SEO Marketing

Substantially revised on 27 September 2026. Originally published on 22 May 2024.

Someone searching for “heat pump in an older house” needs an answer to a specific question. A video can explain the requirements and where a professional assessment is needed. Social SEO starts here: planning and describing content so people can find it through relevant searches on a platform.

What does Social SEO mean?

This article focuses on discovery within social platforms, particularly TikTok and YouTube. The term is also used for the relationship between social media and web search. First decide which search environment you want to improve and what action you want the viewer to take.

What the platforms document

YouTube identifies relevance, engagement and quality as central elements of search. It considers how the title, description and video content match a query, along with signals such as watch time for that query. A suitable headline is only a starting point: the video needs to deliver the answer it promises.

TikTok introduced Creator Search Insights to surface frequently searched topics and potential content gaps. Its announcement specifies availability in selected regions. Check whether your account has access. These indicators do not measure the entire Austrian search market.

A first test in five steps

  1. Collect questions. Gather specific questions from consultations, sales conversations and comments. Remove personal details. Choose one that relates to your offering and that your team can answer competently.
  2. Examine search results. Search for the question on your chosen platform. Record the answers you find and what remains unclear. This is qualitative research, not a search-volume measurement.
  3. Show the answer. Plan an explanation, comparison or demonstration. As a hypothetical example, a specialist contractor could explain the checks needed before replacing a heating system. Claims about actual client work or results need supporting evidence.
  4. Name the content clearly. The title and description should identify the question being answered. Add a relevant next step, such as a detailed guide or a consultation. Avoid promises the video does not fulfil.
  5. Measure each stage separately. Check search traffic and search terms where the platform reports them. Then examine website visits and qualified enquiries. Record the observation period, publication date and concurrent advertising activity to put changes in context.

What makes the test useful?

Define a suitable enquiry before you start: for example, the required service, location and project need. A large view count without relevant enquiries leaves the business question unanswered. With small numbers, allow more time and seek feedback from sales; one successful video does not establish a general strategy.

Conclusion

Start with a customer question you can answer with evidence, one platform and a defined next step. Then assess whether discovery leads to relevant enquiries.
